Artificial intelligence has become part of our everyday workflow, from automating reports and generating marketing copy to assisting with scheduling and communication. At My Virtual Resources (MVR), we’ve seen firsthand how AI can boost productivity and streamline how virtual assistants and teams operate.

But recently, during one of our recruitment interviews, we witnessed a different side of AI’s growing presence in the workplace.

The Interview That Sparked a Conversation

During a routine candidate interview, our recruitment team noticed something unusual. The applicant’s responses came with a noticeable delay, not the typical few seconds of thought, but long pauses before every answer. Eventually, it became clear: the candidate was using an AI tool to generate responses to the interviewer’s questions in real time.

It was a surprising moment, not because the technology itself was unfamiliar, after all, we use AI responsibly in many areas of our work, but because of how it was being used.

Instead of showcasing personal knowledge, experience, and authenticity, the tool was speaking for the applicant. And while the answers were well-structured, they lacked the personal depth and lived experience that clients expect from a capable virtual assistant.

The Fine Line Between Support and Substitution

This experience reminded us of an important truth: AI should be a supporting tool, not a substitute for genuine skill.

There’s a difference between using AI to enhance your performance, like drafting ideas, organizing workflows, or improving efficiency, and using it to represent expertise you don’t have. When technology starts to blur that line, authenticity and trust are at risk.

At MVR, we deeply value both innovation and integrity. We believe AI can be a powerful ally when used with intention, helping VAs save time, refine their work, and deliver higher-quality results. But it should never replace the human qualities that make a VA truly valuable: adaptability, initiative, problem-solving, and real understanding of their craft.

Finding the Right Fit Matters

This experience reinforced why MVR takes recruitment seriously. We don’t just match resumes to job description, we connect capable people to the right opportunities.

Our team ensures that every VA we endorse is equipped not only with the right skills but also with the right mindset: proactive, dependable, and able to leverage tools like AI responsibly to enhance their performance, not define it.

At the end of the day, technology will continue to evolve, and so will the way we work. But in an era where AI can write, speak, and even interview for us, the most powerful advantage any professional can have is still their authentic human value.
